Grants

Grants are gift funds provided by the federal government or the State of Texas. Students do not repay these funds and they are awarded on the basis of financial need. To apply for these grants, students must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Blinn’s annual allocation may be limited for some grants. Therefore, all students are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis and should apply as early as possible. Students are awarded only after all financial aid and admissions requirements are complete.

All grants are awarded with the expectation that the student will attend full-time. The amount disbursed is prorated based on the student’s actual enrollment at the time of disbursement:

Enrollment Level Amount Disbursed
12 or more hours 100% of awarded amount
9-11 hours 75% of awarded amount
6-8 hours 50% of awarded amount

**Half-time (six hours) enrollment is required for all grants with the exception of the Pell Grant. Students must accept all grants (except for the Pell Grant) within their myBlinn portal or they will be canceled.**

Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree, demonstrate financial need, and have not exceeded their lifetime Pell Grant award limit. The grant is based upon the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated by the Department of Education from information provided on the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Award eligibility and amounts vary based on the EFC and the student’s enrollment status.
