Early Childhood Education

Graduates of our Early Childhood Education Program are qualified to enter positions as teachers in public and private childcare facilities and other early childhood programs. With these skills in hand, our students transfer to some of the state’s leading bachelor’s degree programs, including Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, Texas Woman’s University, Stephen F. Austin State, Texas State, and more.

“Growing up I always wanted to work with and help kids, but I wanted to be a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon,” said Glenn. “I babysat and worked at church nurseries, but I swore I was never going to be a teacher even though it was essentially my calling.”

Program FAQ

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education prepares you for a career as an early childhood teacher, childcare director/provider, preschool director/teacher, and more. This degree is transferrable to some Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree programs.

The 27-credit-hour Level-1 Certificate in Early Childhood Education provides a foundation in early childhood and prepares you for entry-level positions in early childhood settings.

The 12-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award in Early Childhood consists of four TECA courses that can be applied toward the Early Childhood Education AAS and Level-1 Certificate as well as the Associate of Science in Education.

The 9-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award in Early Childhood Education Administration prepares you to meet the educational requirements set by Texas Child Care Licensing to serve as the director of a licensed childcare center. You must have at least one year of childcare experience, have completed 6 hours of early childhood coursework (TECA/CDEC 1311 and CDEC 1313 preferred), and have approval from the Early Childhood Education Program Coordinator before beginning this award.

All four tracks can be completed online and on the Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses.

Blinn early childhood education students can transfer to universities that offer Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree programs.  TECA classes are transferrable to Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, Texas Woman’s University, Stephen F. Austin State, as well as other universities. Speak to an academic advisor at your university of choice to see how Blinn credits will apply toward your specific degree plan.

Graduates of our Early Childhood Education Program are qualified to enter positions as teachers in public and private childcare facilities and other early childhood programs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, preschool and childcare center directors earned a median salary of $47,310 per year in 2021.
