Mechatronics

Through the Blinn College District Mechatronics Program, you learn to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair robotic and automated manufacturing systems. With an Associate of Applied Science in Mechatronics, you can immediately enter the workforce, where graduates can earn a median salary of $59,800 and work in a wide array of industries.

Degree and Certificate Plans

The 60-credit-hour AAS degree prepares students for positions in the emerging mechatronics field by teaching them to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair robotic and automated manufacturing systems. Students can start with an OSA and work their way up to the AAS degree.

Meet David Garcia

“For me, hands-on learning is the best – actually applying that knowledge rather than reading from a textbook,” Blinn mechatronics student David Garcia said. “Blinn has figured out how to put students through the program as fast as possible without having them pay more money than is required or take more time than is required. It’s a really, really good hands-on learning experience.”

Program FAQ

Through the program, students earn stackable credentials: a one-semester occupational skills award, a two-semester Level 1 certificate, a three-semester Level 2 certificate, and a four-semester Associate of Applied Science degree. With each award, students gain progressively advanced skills and are prepared for higher-paying career opportunities.

The 9-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award in Mechatronics prepares you for a career collaborating with engineers in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of intelligent computer-controlled systems.

The 18-credit-hour Level-1 Certificate in Mechatronics includes the same content as the OSA and also covers fluid power, digital systems, and industrial automation.

The 30-credit-hour Level-2 Certificate in Mechatronics builds upon the Level-1 Certificate with industrial electronics, microcomputer control, and instrumentation and safety.

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science in Mechatronics includes all the content from the Level-2 Certificate and teaches you to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

All four awards can be completed on the BrenhamRELLIS and Waller campuses.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, electro-mechanical and mechatronics technicians earned a median salary of $65,080 in 2022 and work in a wide array of industries, including advanced manufacturing and robotics; telecommunications and information services; agriculture, food, and forestry; renewable engineering; transportation and logistics; and homeland security and defense.
