Blinn offering medication aide courses

Certified medication aide, refresher course will be offered through interactive video classes

January 9, 2024

Blinn College is offering two medication aide courses this spring.

A certified medication aide course will be offered for actively employed certified nurse aides with a high school diploma or GED. The class will meet from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from April 2 through June 20 on the Schulenburg Campus. Students also can participate through interactive video on the Brenham and Bryan campuses. All students will be required to attend four classes in Schulenburg for hands-on labs and demonstrations.

The 140-hour course covers medical abbreviations, symbols, terminology, and common equivalents required for medication administration. Topics include drug legislation, drug references, basic anatomy and physiology, and common diseases. After completing the course, students will be prepared to take the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Medication Aide Licensure Exam. Cost of the course is $805, not including a textbook, state exam fee, fingerprinting, and parking permit.

A $75 medication aide refresher course will be offered Monday, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. That course also will be offered through interactive video on the Schulenburg, Brenham, and Bryan campuses.

A state-mandated refresher course is required for medication aides to maintain their certification. It should be taken before the Texas Unified Licensure Information Portal (TULIP) grace period for renewal expires on April 30.
