What is the Math Placement Exam?

The Blinn Math Placement Exam is used to measure a student’s preparedness for success in Pre-Calculus (MATH 2412) or Calculus I (MATH 2413).

Who Should Take the Blinn Math Placement Exam (MPE)?

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors that are not eligible to enroll in Calculus I (MATH 2413) based on prerequisite courses or based on test scores (such as the ACT or SATs) should take the MPE.
  • Non-STEM majors, those that do not require Math 2413, are not required to take the placement exam. However, such students may choose to take the Math Placement Exam in an attempt to satisfy a prerequisite.
  • All Texas A&M University TEAM and Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan students are exempt from the Blinn Math Placement Exam; however, these students are required to take Texas A&M University’s Math Placement Exam. TEAB-Brenham students are not exempt and are required to take the Blinn Math Placement Exam; however, these students are not required to take Texas A&M University's Math Placement Exam.

How Do I Take the Blinn Placement Exam (MPE)?

  • Taking the MPE:
    • Through Blinn College
    • Remote through Examity
      • Examity allows remote proctored testing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Testing through Examity is the fastest and most flexible way to take the TSIA. The cost of Examity is $10 more than taking the test through Blinn College. Examity will email you directly. Complete the Blinn College Testing Appointment Request Form.
    • In-person at a non-Blinn location (may have an additional fee)
      • If you wish to test in person at another testing center, we can issue a voucher to have your scores automatically uploaded to our systems. To test at another location:
        1. Find a testing center nearby using the Accuplacer Testing Center Lookup.
        2. Verify that you can test with them using a voucher from another school. Please note that most schools will charge you a proctor fee that is in addition to the testing fee you pay Blinn College. 
        3. Fill out the Blinn College Remote Voucher Request.
        4. After your request is completed by Blinn College, you will receive an email from Accuplacer. Monitor your email and junk email folder for this email.
