The Blinn College Dental Hygiene Program is seeking patients for discounted cleanings and screenings at its dental clinic located at 301 Post Office Street in downtown Bryan. All services are provided to the public at a cost of $20 and are conducted by Blinn dental hygiene students under the supervision of a general dentist and dental hygiene faculty.

“Our students and faculty are dedicated to providing proper dental care,” said Dental Hygiene Program Director Lisa Wiese. “With some people forgoing routine health treatments due to the ongoing pandemic, we want to make sure the community knows that our clinic is open for treatment.”

Adult patients interested in a cleaning must first schedule a 30-minute screening appointment. Screenings are not required for children under 17. During the screening, patients will complete a medical history and undergo a brief oral examination to determine eligibility for clinical care. After the screening appointment, a Blinn Dental Hygiene Program student will be in touch to schedule a treatment appointment.

Dental cleaning appointments include a blood pressure screening, head and neck evaluation to look for abnormalities, oral cancer screening, dental x-rays, cleaning (including deep cleanings), sealants, fluoride treatments, oral hygiene instruction, and dietary analysis. After cleanings, each patient receives an examination by a licensed dentist at no extra cost.

Blinn’s Dental Hygiene Program follows all College, local, and state guidelines related to COVID-19 safety protocols recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Patients will be pre-screened and have their temperatures taken by staff before entering the clinic. Patients also are required to wear masks at all times, except during treatment. Part of Blinn’s Division of Health Sciences, the Dental Hygiene Program educates students to become registered dental hygienists. Upon successful completion of coursework, students receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the National Board of Dental Hygiene Examination and a regional or state clinical exam.
