The Blinn College District will recognize 465 graduates during the College District’s 140th commencement ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Bryan Performing Arts Center.

Blinn’s graduation total includes 151 reverse transfer graduates. Reverse transferring allows students who completed Blinn’s residency requirements before transferring to a four-year university to apply credits they earned at the university to their associate degree. To check eligibility, Blinn alumni should contact their four-year institution and request that their transcript be sent to Blinn, then visit Blinn’s graduation website at to complete the reverse transfer graduation application.

Blinn’s commencement ceremony will feature two student speakers – Associate Degree Nursing student Ashlee Carter representing the Bryan Campus and English student Lydia Hill representing the Brenham Campus.

Originally from Sugar Land, Texas, Carter graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in allied health before realizing that her true calling was to serve others as a registered nurse. Carter enrolled in Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing Program in 2016, and as a student she has served as a member of the Salvation Army of Bryan/College Station Advisory Board; partnered with Mosaic, a national nonprofit serving adults with disabilities; served as president of the Blinn College Nursing Student Association; and represented Blinn students on the College’s Curriculum Committee.

Carter and her husband Kevin share a 2-year-old son, Eli, and Carter credits her experience as a mother and student for sparking her passion for maternal and infant health and leading her to a career in CHI St. Joseph Hospital’s Department of Women’s Services.

A Brenham native, Hill was homeschooled throughout high school and began attending dual credit courses at Blinn in 2015. After earning her high school diploma in 2017, she enrolled at Blinn-Brenham full-time as an English major, where she has enjoyed membership in the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society and served as president of Sigma Kappa Delta, the English honor society.

After graduation, Hill plans to attend Texas A&M, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Arts in English. She enjoys creative writing and working as a correspondent for the Brenham Banner-Press newspaper, and hopes to turn her love of writing into a career by becoming an author or editor.

Registration for Blinn’s convenient online Winter Minimester courses, which run Dec. 14-21 and Jan. 3-10, is open through Thursday, Dec. 13. Registration for the Spring Semester is available through Sunday, Jan. 13. College officials encourage early registration for convenient scheduling and placement in high-demand courses.

According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 36.9 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the state-wide average of 20.9 percent. In addition to transfer agreements with the state’s leading four-year universities, Blinn is home to pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program and the Texas A&M Engineering Academies at Blinn, and provides a seamless transfer pathway to The Texas A&M University System through the RELLIS Academic Alliance.

According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s, out-of-district Blinn students who enroll in 30 credit hours during the 2018-19 academic year save 42 percent in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state. In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences.
