The GED (General Educational Development Test)

The GED measures the outcome of a high school education.  There are four test sections:

  • Mathematical Reasoning - 120 minutes
  • Science - 95 minutes
  • Social Studies - 75 minutes
  • Reasoning through Language Arts (Reading & Writing) - 155 minutes

Who can take the GED?
Anyone 18 years or older who has not earned a high school diploma and has officially withdrawn from high school may sit for the test.  16 and 17 year olds may also sit for the exam but require more documentation as noted within registration.

How many tests can I take on a test day?
You can only register for one or two sections on a test day. 

About the Brenham Test Site
Tests are administered several Fridays each month. The testing room is located in the Administration Building, Room 248 on the Blinn College, Brenham campus. The physical address is 802 Green St. Brenham, TX 77833.

About the Bryan Test Site
Tests are administered several Tuesdays and Thursdays each month. The Testing Center is closed during some holidays. Testing location: 3125 South Texas Ave, Bryan, TX, Behind the H.E.B., Room 171.

On the Day of the GED Test bring the following
If the following items are not provided you will not be allowed to test. No exceptions!

  1. Current Government-issued Photo ID. A GED examinee is required to present current government-issued photo identification to be admitted on the day of the test.
  2. Proof of residency in the state of Texas (e.g. utility bill with you name and address).

Full Exam:  $145
One Section:  $36.25

Payment via credit card or debit card is due at the time of online registration.  If you need to re-take a section, GED Testing Service offers a discounted retake program of $13.75 per subject test.  This discount applies to two retests (per subject), taken within 12 months of your initial failed subject test.  There is no wait time between tests; however, if you do not pass a subject test 3 times, you do have to wait 60 days before re-testing.

New Score Levels
As of 1-26-16 the GED with Honors score has been replaced by two new score levels that show you’re ready for college or a career training program, and in some cases eligible to earn college credits.
145 - 164       Pass / High School Equivalency
165 - 174    GED College Ready
175 - 200 GED College Ready + Credit

Your scores are available the same day you test on your MyGED online account under the My Scores section.

The Certificate is issued approximately five business days after you pass the entire test battery – ALL 4 subject tests.  TEA will email your initial certificate in a PDF file to the email address used to register for the exams.
