Blinn’s Sealy campus posts record Summer II enrollment

Sealy, online courses see greatest growth as enrollment approaches 5,000

Led in part by record-setting growth on its Sealy campus, Blinn College saw a nearly double-digit increase in enrollment for the Summer II semester, surging 9.2 percent over 2011’s Summer II semester to a record 4,708 students.

That growth includes a 40.82 percent increase on the Sealy campus and a 26.65 percent climb in students enrolled solely in online courses. Blinn’s largest campus in Bryan saw its enrollment grow 3.27 percent to 3,065 students, while Brenham posted a population of 352 students for the Summer semester.

The College also set a new Summer II record in contact hours, climbing 7.85 percent to 363,440. Contact hours calculate the amount of time each student spends in contact with the instructor, and this data is used to determine the amount of state and federal funding an institution is eligible to receive.

Sealy, Blinn’s newest campus, saw 69 students enroll this semester, 20 more than enrolled for the Summer II semester in 2011. That total set a new Summer II campus record.

“This is just the beginning of big growth for the Sealy campus,” said Jeri Dulaney, who directs the Sealy campus. “We pride ourselves on providing personal customer service to our students and we believe this growth reflects that.”

Distance Learning climbed to 979 students this semester, a growth of 206 students over the previous year. Enrollment numbers for Distance Learning consist of students who are taking online classes without taking courses at any of Blinn’s physical locations.

“Our Distance Learning program allows students the option of continuing their education through the summer while working or traveling,” Dean of Distance Learning Mark Workman said. “Our students appreciate the flexibility our online offerings provide, particularly during the summer months.”

One of the largest community colleges in Texas, Blinn expects to boast an enrollment of more than 18,000 students this Fall.
