Local Fiction Writing Workshop

November 24, 2013
Marco Martinez, Beth Wiseman, Zachary DennyTwo Blinn sophomore students, Marco Martinez (La Grange) and Zachary Denny (Weimar), attended best-selling fiction author Beth Wiseman's (www.bethwiseman.com) writing workshop on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Fayetteville, Texas. The day-long workshop guided writers through the publication process and included hands-on practice in character creation, dialogue writing, manuscript editing, genre choice, and more. Martinez and Denny were joined by about twenty other writers at the Arts For Rural Texas (ARTS) gallery (http://www.artsforruraltexas.org/). Wiseman graciously donated all proceeds from the workshop to the non-profit organization that serves Fayette County, in which the Schulenburg campus of Blinn College is located.

Wiseman, whose latest contemporary novels are set in the small Texas towns of Round Top and Smithville, has written twelve novels and seven novellas, with more releasing in 2014. Her highly-anticipated The Promise is in presale for its July 2014 release.

Both Martinez and Denny were winners in the 2013 Emerging Writers contest (http://www.blinn.edu/schulenburg/emerging_writers2013.html).
