Computer Course Grads

The Blinn College – Schulenburg campus recognized the 17 members of its second Computer Series Program graduating class during a ceremony Friday night.

Graduates spent more than 100 classroom hours studying topics ranging from keyboarding and basic computer functions to mastery of the Microsoft Office suite of programs. The program was made possible through a grant awarded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and through the support and generosity of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Schulenburg Public Library, the City of Schulenburg, the Stanzel Family Foundation and Blinn College. The grant bid was written by Schulenburg Public Library Director Thadious Polasek.

Some students entered the course with no previous computer experience, said Schulenburg Campus Director Rebecca Garlick.

“We were really looking to offer a series of classes that would meet the needs of the beginning computer user as well as someone who needed a specific set of computer skills to work in an office,” Garlick said. “Some of our students have already used these skills to find better employment or improved opportunities.”

Friday’s graduating class included Debra Anderson, Kim Bretting, Ginger Gilbert, Basilisa Madrigal, Sylvia Mendoza, Veronica Rosales, Misty Schindler, Maria Teresa Velasquez and Patsy Wagner of Schulenburg; Anita Cedillo, Teresa Rast and Pedro Manuel Villegas of Flatonia; Sylvia Hercik, Genoveva Rodriguez and Veronica R. Sanchez of Weimar; Sheila Read of La Grange and Nina “Toni” Seidel of Shiner.

Program graduates are already discovering new employment opportunities through the College’s job posting system at Employers looking for Blinn College graduates and certificate holders from all four campuses can browse student resumes and use the site to contact them about job openings.

Employers are also using the site to post openings available to Blinn students and graduates, including 32 positions posted this month by companies such as Reynolds & Reynolds, NCR Corp., the Lower Colorado River Authority, Utility Fleet Sales, the Texas A&M University Transportation Department and numerous local banks.

Blinn – Schulenburg offers a variety of academic transfer, workforce training and continuing education classes to fit the needs of any student. For information on course offerings and student registration, visit: or call 979-743-5200.
