Blinn College Alumni Relations Director Dr. Kyle Merten presents a check for $1,000 from the Alumni & Friends Association to Choir Director Paulo Gomes and the Blinn choir April 26 prior to a concert at Saint Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.
The Blinn College Alumni & Friends Association recently gifted $1,000 to support the Blinn choir’s upcoming trip to New York City.
The donation came through the grant program initiated last year by the Alumni & Friends Association to give back to Blinn College departments, programs, and student organizations.
“This is just another way for the Alumni & Friends Association to support Blinn College students,” said Dr. Kyle Merten, Alumni Relations Director. “The Association is proud to help make this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible for the Blinn College choir.”
Blinn choir students pay two-thirds of the cost of the trip to New York City, which takes place May 16-19, while the remainder of the cost was paid through the Blinn Choir Club fundraising and grants.
“I am very thankful to the Alumni & Friends Association for this donation,” said Dr. Paulo Gomes, Choir Director. “The students will have the opportunity to sing in one of the most important performing arts cities in the world.”
The choir will sing at the New Jersey State Veteran’s Memorial Home and the Saint Malachy Catholic Church in New York City. In addition, the choir will see “Wicked” on Broadway, visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum and Rockfeller Center, and take a night cruise around the Statue of Liberty and World Observatory.
The Alumni & Friends Association grant program previously has donated money to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Blinn’s Department of Housing, the Agricultural Sciences Department, and the Blinn-Bryan Campus Library.
Grant applications must be completed by faculty, staff, or students within a recognized department, program, or student organization at Blinn College. For more information, visit the Alumni & Friends Association website athttp://foundation.blinn.edu/alumni/join.
The mission of the Alumni & Friends Association is to maintain contact with all former students and friends of the College, to encourage support for and participate in the educational, cultural, athletic and social programs of the College, to encourage personnel recruitment of students by members, to assist the College in achieving planned goals and objectives, and to provide fellowship among former students, friends and support.
