Blinn-Schulenburg offers Preserving Your Family Story course this Fall
The course helps family historians gather and preserve cherished memories
September 12, 2019
The Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus will offer its "Preserving Your Family Story" course beginning this October to help family historians gather and preserve cherished memories.
Taught by Fayette County author Elaine Thomas, the eight-week course helps turn family stories into valuable treasures. Students learn and practice techniques to plan, research, organize, write and produce a compelling collection of memories worth sharing.
"In almost every family, there’s someone who painstakingly collects stories, documents, and memorabilia," Thomas said. "This class is all about stepping back, gaining perspective, and acquiring some ideas and tools to begin the task. For those ready to start compiling their stories, it’s also a meaningful writing class."
The class meets from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons, Oct. 2 through Nov. 20. The course is $89 and registration is required. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu/schulenburg-campus/preserving-your-family-story.html.
In previous classes, students have found the motivation to edit and publish their writing for family members.
"I had expected that Blinn’s Preserve Your Family Story would motivate me to begin and it did," said Martha Schultz, course graduate. "I hadn’t realized how much fun the course would be and how much I would enjoy my classmates’ stories. Elaine Thomas is a positive force."
