Amy Jones knows the importance of nurturing the next generation of educators.
The Blinn College District’s Child Development Program Coordinator recently was honored with the John E. Trott, Jr. Award in Student Recruiting from Texas A&M University’s College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The award recognizes outstanding dedication to recruiting students to attend the CEHD and enter the education field. Recipients must demonstrate accomplishments regarding volunteerism with recruitment programs and serve as a positive influence on perspective students.
"I can think of no one more deserving for this award, said Casey Ricketts, CEHD Director of Recruitment and Scholarships. "Amy is an excellent resource for teacher recruitment in our college. She understands the various roadblocks that can discourage students from pursuing teaching as a profession and works diligently to push aside those barriers.
Jones has been at Blinn since 1997, where she has dedicated her time as an instructor and as the Child Development Program Coordinator. Before coming to Blinn, she was as a prekindergarten teacher for the Bryan Independent School District. Jones serves on numerous committees and is an active member of various professional organizations. She currently is a member of the Multidisciplinary Studies Field of Study Advisory Committee for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
In 2017, she was one of four Blinn educators recognized with an Excellence Award by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development for her dedication to student success. She earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Angelo State University and her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on early childhood from Texas A&M University.
"Mentorship is a responsibility I take very seriously as an educator, Jones said. "Our program helps lay the foundation for the next generation of teachers and the relationship we have with CEHD provides a direct connection for students to continue their training. I’m thrilled to receive this recognition and help nurture and support those interested in the teaching profession.
Blinn’s Child Development Program prepares individuals who are committed to careers helping children grown and develop in the best environment possible. Graduates of the program are qualified to enter positions as teachers in public and private childcare facilities as well as other early childhood programs. As coordinator of Blinn-Bryan’s program, Jones also directs activities for the Future Teacher Organization (FTO). This role enables her to support and provide information to Blinn students interested in teaching. Through FTO, the CEHD has consistent interaction with Blinn students and provides them with information about attending Texas A&M University to continue their education.
