The Blinn College District has named Deborah Vavra its Dean of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology.
“Dean Vavra’s ability to inspire colleagues and students makes her an ideal choice to lead Blinn’s Division of Visual/Performing Arts and Kinesiology,” said Dr. Marcelo Bussiki, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. “Under her leadership, the division has a bright future filled with new opportunities.”
Vavra has been a member of Blinn’s faculty since 1995. As Assistant Division Chair, Interim Division Chair, and Assistant Academic Dean from 2002-2018, she helped develop and monitor program maps and assessment, oversaw programming for Blinn’s Performing Arts Series, and promoted the division through community outreach events.
Vavra was a Teaching Excellence Award winner and Blinn’s nominee for the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award in 2017. She also has been recognized with the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award; the Robert Giles Distinguished Advisor Award; Phi Theta Kappa’s Faculty Scholar, Paragon, and Region Horizon Awards; and been named to the Texas Hall of Honor for Outstanding Advisors.
Vavra holds a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from Texas A&M University.
