Small businesses may face more challenges in today’s economy than ever before, but a new report shows that business owners in Washington, Colorado, and Austin counties can depend upon the Blinn College District Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
The Blinn SBDC’s new impact report shows that the center helped local business owners create 20 new businesses and 137 new jobs, and obtain $8.93 million in loans during Fiscal Year 2018.
“We have a terrific, experienced staff that truly cares about our local businesses,” said Matthew Wehring, Blinn SBDC Director. “We are proud of our clients’ success in 2018 and we look forward to helping them even more in the year ahead.”
The SBDC provided free and confidential advising for 83 long-term clients during the fiscal year. The SBDC assists in business plan development, accessing capital, and identifying market opportunities, and provides free or low-cost workshops covering a wide range of topics, from hands-on QuickBooks classes to social media for beginners.
Nation-wide, the SBDC Network helps small businesses acquire $5.9 billion in financing each year, and creates 93,471 jobs.
The Blinn College District SBDC is a business advising and training center of the University of Houston Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network serving 32 counties in Southeast Texas. The SBDC program is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
