Blinn to offer two beginner golf courses in June

‘Let’s Play Golf’ and ‘Making That Critical Shot’ will be offered at the Phillips Event Center at Briarcrest

May 22, 2018

The Blinn College District will offer two non-credit, beginner golf courses at the Phillips Event Center at Briarcrest this June.

Blinn will offer a course called “Let’s Play Golf” from 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays, June 5-26, and another called “Making That Critical Shot” from 8-10 a.m. on Thursday mornings, June 7-28.

Each of these four-lesson courses are $140, with a bucket of balls included for each session. Students must bring their own clubs and wear appropriate attire.

“Let’s Play Golf” teaches students golfing terminology and how to keep score. The course includes an introduction to club selection; basics of the golf swing; fundamentals of woods, irons, and putting; and golfing etiquette.

“Making that Critical Shot” is a more advanced course that teaches alignment and swing mechanics, advanced swing concepts, swing rhythm and tempo, and executing the critical shot to save strokes.

Courses are taught by Gary Christopher, a 48-year U.S. Golf Association Amateur Tournament golfer who played three years on the Heartland Senior Tour. Christopher has served as a caddie at the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Mid-Amateur, British Amateur, and British Open tournaments.
