Blinn introduces Saturday courses at the RELLIS Campus
Each course applies toward the Texas core curriculum, and is designed to meet the needs of students who cannot attend weekday courses
November 12, 2018
The Blinn College District is making a college education even more accessible for students this spring with the introduction of Saturday classes at the RELLIS Campus’s Walter C. Schwartz Building in Bryan.
“Offering Saturday courses opens the door for students whose schedules do not allow them to attend classes on weekdays,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District. “Access to a college education is one of Blinn’s core values, and by scheduling weekend courses, we create new opportunities for students to earn a college degree.”
Each Saturday course is part of the Texas core curriculum, which can be applied toward associate and bachelor’s degrees. Spring 2019 courses include:

In the future, Blinn expects to add associate degrees that can be earned entirely via Saturday courses.
“We understand that traditional weekday courses are not convenient for everyone who would like to enroll,” said Dr. Marcelo Bussiki, Interim Vice Chancellor for Instruction. “That’s why Blinn offers a robust selection of online courses, and why we have scheduled our highest-demand courses on Saturday. Nothing is more important than ensuring that everyone in our community has the opportunity to benefit from higher education.”
Registration for Blinn’s Spring semester is available through Jan. 13. Spring semester courses are available online and on the Brenham, Bryan, RELLIS, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses.
Students seeking credit hours during the holidays can register for Blinn’s Winter Minimester, which runs Dec. 14-21 and Jan. 3-10. Students earn full credit for minimester courses, and Blinn offers a wide variety of online courses. Registration remains open through Dec. 13.
Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 36.9 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the statewide average of 20.9 percent. In addition to transfer agreements with the state’s leading four-year universities, Blinn is home to pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program and the Texas A&M Engineering Academies at Blinn.
In addition to its co-enrollment programs with Texas A&M University, Blinn partners with The Texas A&M University System in the RELLIS Academic Alliance. Through this collaboration, students have the opportunity to complete their foundational coursework at Blinn and seamlessly transfer to several Texas A&M University System universities, including Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Prairie View A&M University, Tarleton State University, West Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Texarkana, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and Texas A&M University-Central Texas, also located onsite.
According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, out-of-district Blinn students who enroll in 30 credit hours during the 2018-19 academic year save 42 percent in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state. In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences.
