Blinn’s online Summer I enrollment continues rapid increase

Blinn offered 183 online course sections during the Summer I semester

June 18, 2018

Blinn College District students continued to enroll in greater numbers of online courses during the Summer I registration period.

Blinn registered 6,176 students for the Summer I semester, slightly above last year’s total of 6,164, and will total 464,448 contact hours during Summer I.

As Blinn’s Summer I enrollment increased slightly, the College District continues to see rapidly increasing demand for online courses. The 3,288 students who enrolled in online courses during the current Summer I semester represent a 16.2 percent increase over the 2,829 who took such courses last Summer I.

To accommodate the growing demand, Blinn expanded its online selection, offering 183 course sections during the 2018 Summer I semester. With a wide selection of online courses available each semester, Blinn students can earn 22 awards and degrees entirely online.

“Students enjoy having the flexibility to take online courses and advance toward a degree while still spending time at home, traveling, or working,” said Dr. Crystal Lee, Vice Chancellor for Instruction. “Just like Blinn’s traditional face-to-face courses, each online course offers full credit and transferability, and Blinn’s online students have access to the full range of support services that have made Blinn an academic leader among Texas community colleges.”

Blinn’s academic transfer rate of 36.9 percent ranks second in the state and far exceeds the statewide average of 20.9 percent. In addition to transfer agreements with the state’s leading four-year universities, Blinn is home to pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program and the Texas A&M Engineering Academies at Blinn.

Beginning in the Fall semester, students can register for Blinn courses at the RELLIS Campus, where they can complete four-year degrees from the Texas A&M System regional universities onsite. Each program at the RELLIS Academic Alliance creates a seamless pathway for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in related fields from an A&M System university. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s, out-of-district Blinn students who enroll in 30 credit hours during the 2018-19 academic year save 42 percent in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state.

In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers 201 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences. Students are considered based on high academic achievement, participation in student activities, and community involvement. Registration is now open for Blinn’s Summer II semester, which begins Thursday, July 5, and the Fall semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 27. Registration for each semester is available until the first day of class.
