Blinn College inducts 24 students into Sigma Kappa Delta honor society
English honor society welcomes full-time students with 3.0 GPA
March 7, 2018
The Blinn College-Bryan Campus chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD) recently inducted 24 students into the national two-year college English honor society.
Founded in 1996 at Cottey College in Missouri, SKD provides cultural stimulation, encourages interest in literature and the English language, and promotes exemplary character and fellowship among its members.
Blinn’s Theta Gamma chapter has approximately 50 members, each of whom have earned a cumulative 3.0-plus grade point average (GPA), made at least a B in all their English courses, and have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of total college coursework.
“Sigma Kappa Delta provides a great opportunity for students to connect over common interests in academics,” said Candice Melzow, SKD Advisor. “Students involved in Sigma Kappa Delta gain excellent leadership experience and better serve their campus and their community.”
Theta Gamma coordinates various service events each semester that benefit Blinn and the local community. Last year, the chapter raised funds for Still Creek Ranch, a local boarding school that serves neglected and abused children. Theta Gamma also collected donations for a school damaged by Hurricane Harvey and hosted free, campus-wide movie nights for Blinn students.
The chapter hosts an induction ceremony each semester to welcome new members and celebrate with family, friends, and English faculty.
This semester’s inductees include: Emma Best, Madison Bihm, John Bare, Joseph Brelsford, Maria Jaqueline Sanchez Calzada, Aynsley Chaloupka, Kelsey Clements, Kayli Crauthers, Duane M. Dailey, Brooke Denniss, James Malcolm Gibson, Samantha Gilligan, Jessica Giraldo, Karla Zamari Gonzalez, Tyler Janik, Morgan Lynn Kothmann, Dayana Lopez Martinez, Nichole Oliver, Kyle Pellino, Raquel Colette Pitzer, Brittany Louise Rogers, Kenneth D. Spiller, Delaney Tyler, and Katelyn Whittemore.
