Blinn College’s A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center will offer courses in specialty welding, basic machining, industrial safety, first aid, and business skills this October.

Blinn will offer three industrial safety course sections in October, including Industrial Safety Training – Construction Tuesday, Oct. 10, and Oct. 23-24; Basic Safety and Health Oct. 2-3; and a Forklift Operation Certificate course Monday, Oct. 16.

A one-day Red Cross CPR/First Aid course will be offered Friday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course provides hands-on skills training to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, and to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

On Saturday, October 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Blinn will offer a certified medication aide refresher course. The course includes specific training and review in the preparation and administration of medications, documentation, licensing standards, the safeguarding of medications, common drug reactions and side effects, and updated and new medications available on the market. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an updated certified medication aide permit from the state

Blinn will offer three specialty welding courses this month, including CPWI+V Transmission and Distribution, an advanced specialty course for inspection of transmission and distribution lines in the oil and gas industry, and API 1169 Preparatory, an advanced specialty course for preparation of the API 1169 national test that will be required for all pipeline inspectors in 2018. The specialty welding courses will be taught at the National Welding Inspection School in Burton.

The basic machining courses offered in October are Blueprint Reading and Sketching Oct. 17-30 and Statistical Process Control for Machinists Oct. 31-Nov. 13. Blueprint Reading and Sketching covers the basic blueprint reading for machinists, while Statistical Process Control for Machinists is designed for participants learning operation of controls on manual machines, including lathe, mill, grinder, and saw.

In addition, Blinn will offer two business skills courses – Leadership and Management-Delegation Oct. 2-Nov. 11 and Fundamentals of Management Oct. 4-Dec. 13. Leadership and Management-Delegation is a leadership development course with a focus on delegation, while the Fundamentals of Management teaches critical fundamentals of leadership, including time management, personnel management, and internal and external motivation.

Blinn’s technical and community education courses are designed to provide students the knowledge and abilities they need to enter the workforce immediately after completion of the courses. Many of these courses do not require a high school diploma and enrollment is fast and easy. As most of these courses are non-credit, students do not need to go through the College’s admission process to enroll. Programs vary in length and are offered with daytime, evening, and weekend options.

Prospective students can register by visiting the Hodde Center, located at 2910 S. Blue Bell Road in Brenham, during regular business hours. As part of Blinn’s Division of Technical & Community Education, its staff works in cooperation with local businesses to provide a well-trained workforce that strengthens the local economy.

Business owners can enroll their employees in Hodde Center courses using Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development and Skills for Small Business funds, and Hodde Center staff can help businesses complete the request form. Blinn also offers students access to scholarships through the Blinn College Foundation, private grants, and Workforce Solutions.
