Spanish Brass teaches a master class at the Blinn College – Brenham Campus in 2015.

The internationally-acclaimed music group Spanish Brass will make a second visit to Blinn College to hold a recital and teach a master class to students and the public.

Brass-playing music students will have the opportunity to participate in the free master class Thursday, Jan. 19, at 4:30 p.m. at the Brenham Campus Finke Recital Hall located inside the Schmidt Building (map).

Spanish Brass – which consists of Carlos Beneto (trumpet), Juanjo Serna (trumpet), Manolo Perez (horn), Indalecio Bonet (trombone) and Sergio Finca (tuba) – is one of the most dynamic and admired brass groups on the international music scene and has participated in some of the most prestigious venues around the globe. The group has a concert today in Bryan at the First Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m.

“We have a great relationship with Friends of Chamber Music and Rafaele Montuoro, and they are providing this great opportunity for our students and the public,” said Todd Quinlan, Division of Visual/Performing Arts & Kinesiology Department Head.

Spanish Brass visited Blinn in September 2015 and listened to students play their brass instruments and offer tips to continuing musical progress. Each member of Spanish Brass also teaches at the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain.

“Friends of Chamber Music has been focusing on Blinn because of their music and brass program,” Montuoro said. “Our mission is to do outreach in an effort to increase the arts inspire the younger generations in music.”
