The 2017 Blinn College Clay Shootout raised more than $60,000 for academic scholarships and athletic equipment.

Hosted by the Blinn College Alumni & Friends and the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association, a record 62 teams participated in Blinn’s largest fundraiser of the year, held April 7 at the Boswell Porter 4-H Shotgun Range in Caldwell. More than 140 student volunteers helped the event run seamlessly.

“More and more people are finding out about the Shootout and want to be a part of it,” said Dr. Kyle Merten, Alumni Relations Director.

The team of Rusty Schraeder, Allen Joiner, Jackie Bauman, and Justin Hejl, sponsored by Walcik Construction, won the competition with a score of 373 with the shooting. Bauman was the top individual shooter of the clay shootout. Landon Benson was the top youth shooter with a score of 94, and Kaitlyn Dickerson was the top female shooter with a score of 77.

The team of Brandon Benson, Monty Simms, Landon Benson, and Ben Bosse finished second with 365 points, and the team of Jason Jecmenek, Zach Holub, Deric Hayek, and J.W. Wright finished third with a score of 334.

“I want to thank our sponsors and underwriters, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative and McCoy Workplace Solutions,” Merten said. “We could not have done with it without their support.”
