Blinn College’s chamber, concert, and women’s choirs will collaborate with Houston Camerata to present “John Rutter’s Gloria and Other Music Selections” this weekend.
The choirs will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center at 600 Blinn Blvd. in Brenham, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 1111 St. Joseph Parkway in Houston. Both concerts are free and open to the public.
“This is a first-hand opportunity for Blinn choral and vocal students to experience, observe, and participate in a collaboration concert with great singers and musicians from the Houston area,” said Dr. Paulo Gomes, Director of Choral Studies.
Gomes is the founder of Houston Camerata, a non-profit organization that embraces exceptional and interesting music through the performance of choral repertoires from varied cultures and regions.
“Houston Camerata has a lot of singers who sing for the Houston Symphony Chorus, so I think that musical integration is going to be a learning experience for the Blinn students,” Gomes said.
Each choir will showcase their own repertoire before coming together for the grand finale.
Blinn College students and faculty performing include Dr. Li Kuang, Joseph Schaloff, and Sean Schramm on the trombone; Dr. Kendall Prinz on the tuba; Todd Quinlan and Mario Muñoz playing percussion; Jo Ellen Hubert, John Dujka, and Cheryl Amelang on the piano; sopranos Adrianna Banzhof, Kenya Bracamontes, Alexius Cottrell, Cassidy Ehlers, Charity Karl, Katrina Knox, Alayna Foster, Angel Hickerson, Angela Ivey, Maya Langley, and Carli Pritchard; altos Ashlynn Griffin, Michayla McWilliams, Cassandra Perry, Dezaree Reed, Sarah McClure, Jennifer De Leon, Chye Martinez, Sandra Lino, tenors Kevin Arratia, Marlin McCleary, Matthew Oliver, Jarvis Swatt, Dedrick Winston, Isaak Baumann, Jimmy Gammon, Teague Olguin, Carlos Riojas Garza, and Angel Rodriguez-Cruz, basses Byron Bardales, Aaron Ervin, Adan Galvan, Bailey-Alexander Harabis, Tristain Mathews, Reginald Simpson, Joshua DeLozier, Matthew Goodrum, and Emmanuel Timmons, and Dr. Paulo Gomes as conductor.
