Blinn College-Brenham improvisation troupe Slaphappy to perform Thursday
Audience helps set the stage in an evening of improvisation at the O’Donnell Center
October 24, 2017
The Blinn College-Brenham Campus improvisation troupe Slaphappy will present its Fall improvisation show to the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.
“They are going to be doing a lot of really fun improvisation games, improvisation work, and getting the audience involved,” said Brad Nies, Blinn-Brenham Theatre Director. “It is a lot of fun, and we have had a really good audience response to it.”
Blinn’s improvisation troupe is a cross between Seinfeld, Comedy Sportz Houston, and William Shakespeare. The troupe is comprised of approximately 12 members of Delta Psi Omega, the National Theatre Honor Fraternity for community college students, and the United States Institute for Theatre Technology, a membership organization which aims to advance the skills and knowledge of theatre.
Led by sophomore Caleb Wyrick, improvisation troupe manager, Slaphappy has a style that’s always challenging and never stale, and will rely heavily on audience participation, similar to “Whose Line is it Anyway.”
“The audience gets to offer suggestions as far as where something should take place or how it should take place, so the audience really does get involved,” Nies said.
This is the Blinn Theatre Arts Program’s third year presenting Slaphappy. The Spring show is set for Feb. 15, 2018. Both events are free of charge.
