June 14, 2017
Blinn College’s Division of Technical & Community Programs is offering an online course that trains students to begin a career as a pharmacy technician in just 12 weeks.
The 160-hour, $1,450 course runs Monday, June 19, through Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Pharmacy technicians work under the direction of a licensed pharmacist and perform technical and clerical duties in the pharmacy, including measuring, mixing, counting, labeling, and recording medication dosages according to prescription orders. Pharmacy technicians may work in hospitals, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, mail order pharmacies, or in retail settings.
According to Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley, local demand for pharmacy technicians is expected to grow 23.8 percent between 2014 and 2024, with salaries ranging from $11.52 and $16.24 per hour. Nation-wide, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects demand for pharmacy technicians to grow 9 percent between 2014 and 2024, with a median wage of $14.86 per hour.
Blinn’s technical and community education courses are designed to provide students the knowledge and abilities they need to enter the workforce immediately after completion of the courses. Many of these courses do not require a high school diploma and enrollment is fast and easy. As most of these courses are non-credit, students do not need to go through the College’s admission process to enroll.
