Blinn College’s Division of Technical & Community Education will offer a variety of career training courses in Bryan this June, including new programs offered in partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) to provide training for plumbers and carpenters.
Blinn’s plumbing and carpentry programs are designed following the nationally recognized National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) curriculum. Students who complete these courses earn the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Construction Certificate; the NCCER Core Construction Certificate; the NCCER Level I Certificate for plumbing or carpentry; and the Blinn College Certificate of Completion.
Both programs begin with a core course that will be offered June 5-22. Once the core course is complete, the student can enroll the plumbing or carpentry course.
Students who are 18 years of age or older, eligible to work in the United States, and registered with the Selective Service (if male) are qualified for a scholarship that reduces the cost of the core course to $285, the carpentry course to $690, and the plumbing course to $615. For more information, contact Director of Technical and Community Programs Ken Dupre at ken.dupre@blinn.edu or 979-209-7560, or reach Technical and Community Programs Specialist Deloris Conley at deloris.conley@blinn.edu or 979-209-7205.
Blinn and TEEX are offering a Carpentry Boot Camp June 5-16 that provides students the fundamental knowledge necessary for an entry-level position on a framing crew. Students do not need any previous construction experience or skills, and a Certificate of Completion will be awarded to all students who successfully complete the boot camp.
Blinn’s technical and community education courses are designed to provide students the knowledge and abilities they need to enter the workforce immediately after completion of the courses. Many of these courses do not require a high school diploma and enrollment is fast and easy. As most of these courses are non-credit, students do not need to go through the College’s admission process to enroll. Programs vary in length and are offered with daytime, evening, and weekend options.
Small business owners can enroll their employees in Blinn Technical & Community Education courses for free using Texas Workforce Commission Skills for Small Business Funds, and Blinn staff can help businesses complete the request form. Blinn also offers students access to scholarships through the Blinn College Foundation, private grants, and Workforce Solutions.
For more information or to register for these courses, visit the Blinn Post Office Campus at 301 Post Office Street in Bryan. For additional information, visit www.blinn.edu/workforce or call 979-209-7205.
