Star of the Republic seeks volunteer museum guides

Blinn College’s Star of the Republic Museum seeks volunteer museum guides, or docents, to assist with school tours beginning this fall.

Docents will lead groups of approximately 20 students at a time through the exhibit area, sharing interesting information about early Texas. To become a docent, volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, communicate effectively with children and have a positive attitude, a love of learning and an interest in Texas history.

School tours are offered weekdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and docents may choose which days of the week they wish to volunteer. Docents will be required to attend two orientation sessions, and some independent reading and research will be required.

Star of the Republic Museum was created by the Texas Legislature and is administered by Blinn College as a cultural and educational institution. Its purpose is to collect and preserve the material culture of the Texas Republic from 1836-1846 and to interpret the history, cultures, diversity and values of early Texans.

Star of the Republic Museum is located at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site, at 23200 Park Road 12, Washington, Texas, off Highway 105. From Highway 105, follow either FM 912 or FM 1155 to Park Road 12.
