Five Bryan campus Writing Center instructional assistants complete certification levels

The Blinn-Bryan Writing Center assists more than 3,500 students each year

July 12, 2016

Five Blinn College-Bryan campus Writing Center instructional assistants recently completed levels of tutor certification prescribed by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

Amy Bilski-Arredondo and Martha Chumchal completed Level III of certification, while Lori Pieratt, Stephanie Jones and Jamie Saucier completed Level II.

To fulfill certification requirements, instructional assistants complete approximately 40 hours of training and a minimum of 25 hours of tutoring. The Bryan campus Writing Center currently has 17 instructional assistants who work with more than 3,500 Blinn students each year on writing-related tasks. In addition to providing tutoring, instructional assistants assist students in Parallel Studies labs, host workshops, assist students with transfer essays and give presentations on a variety of topics to current students, prospective students and visitors.

The Writing Center has been serving Blinn College students since 2000.
