The Blinn College Foundation is proud to announce a $50,000 gift from alumnus Sanford Schmid to establish a new endowed scholarship for students attending the Blinn College-Schulenburg campus.

The newly endowed scholarship will be available to academic and technical education students from Fayette, Lavaca or Austin counties.

“Mr. Schmid’s generosity will help to make higher education possible for generations of hard-working students on the Blinn-Schulenburg campus,” said Susan Myers, executive director of the Blinn Foundation. “We are excited that there will now be a permanent scholarship in his name at Blinn College, and we thank him for his generosity and his commitment to this community.”

A World War II Navy veteran and Blinn College alumnus, Schmid is a longtime supporter of higher education and other public projects.

“We are very fortunate to have Blinn College in our community,” Schmid said. “Having a local college provides a great opportunity for students without having to move away from home, and they can prepare for local jobs without having to spend a tremendous amount of money.”

The Blinn Foundation supports programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community. While raising funds is an important function, the Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education.

Since its inception in 2000, the Foundation has raised funds to purchase classroom equipment and supplies, and help launch major construction projects across Blinn’s campuses, including the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center, the J. Hal and Allyne Machat Music Facility, the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex and the Bert and Mae Dean Wheeler Residence Hall.

Thanks to the support of generous donors, Blinn offers more than 230 endowed scholarships valued at more than $16 million. To learn more about the Foundation or to establish a new endowed scholarship, call 979-830-4107 or visit:
