The Blinn College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is hosting a basic QuickBooks course Friday, Aug. 19, to teach small business owners to get the most out of their accounting software.

The course will take place from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Topics include setting up your records, invoices, deposits and checks, accounts payable and receivable, bank and credit card account reconciliation and running reports.

The workshop will be held at the A.W. Hodde, Jr. Technical Education Center located at 2910 S. Blue Bell Road. Registration is $100 per person and is available at www.blinn.edu/sbdc. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.

The class will be taught by Julie Gilmer, CPA and certified QuickBooks advisor.

Registration remains open for the SBDC’s taxpayer business seminar on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The two-hour seminar will be held at 1 p.m. at the Brenham campus Student Center located at 1007 Walter Schwartz Way (map). Michael Stegint, an enforcement officer at the Texas Comptroller’s office in Houston, will explain the proper record-keeping and filing requirements for business owners who must collect and file state sales tax.
