Third annual Boots & Blue Jeans for Blinn raises approximately $14,000 for Sealy scholarships

Sealy campus and dual credit students can apply for scholarships through April 30

April 7, 2016

Blinn College’s third annual Boots & Blue Jeans fundraiser raised approximately $14,000 in scholarships for Sealy campus and dual credit students.

“We appreciate the support shown by the community for the students in Sealy,” said Lisa Caton, Sealy campus director.

The evening included live music, live and silent auctions and a raffle. Gaye Lynn Thomas, Kristi Nolan and Barbara Hoffman of Eagle Lake bought a raffle ticket on a whim and split the prize of $3,090.

The top auction items were a trip to Colorado, a ribeye steak dinner for 20 provided by caterer Stanley Jackson, a Remington model 870 pump action shotgun and a cowhide.

Ryan Kirkpatrick of Ryan’s Auto Group donated $4,000 and David Mafrige donated $1,000 in support of the event. Two $2,000 scholarships are named after Kirkpatrick.

Proceeds fund scholarships for students who do not qualify for federal financial aid. To qualify, students must be ineligible for financial aid, attend the Sealy campus full-time or be enrolled in dual credit courses. The application deadline is Saturday, April 30, and applications are available at the Sealy campus located at 3701 Outlet Center Dr.

Blinn-Sealy offers a variety of academic transfer, workforce training and continuing education classes to fit the need of any student. For information on course offerings and student registration, visit or call 979-627-7997.
