Blinn names alumnus, 20-year instructional veteran its new dean of Social Sciences

Brandon FrankeBlinn College has named an alumnus and 20-year instructional veteran its new dean of Social Sciences.

Brandon Franke, who has served as assistant dean for Social Sciences since 2014 and served as assistant division chair for the Bryan campus from 2006-14, began his new role on April 1.

Franke began his career as a teaching assistant at Sam Houston State University before joining Blinn as a part-time government and history instructor in 1998. In 1999, he became a full-time instructor, and in 2006 he was named assistant division chair for the Bryan campus Division of Social Sciences, where he supervised the government and history disciplines. His responsibilities included hiring, scheduling and managing day-to-day operations.

Franke received the Blinn Professional Association Teaching Excellence Award in 2013. He has been named Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) state advisor of the year twice and regional advisor of the year seven times. He has served as advisor for Blinn’s Bryan campus Student Government Association since 1999.

A former Blinn student, Franke earned his bachelor’s (1996) and master’s (1998) degrees in history from Sam Houston State. He conducted post-graduate study in political science from 1998-2000 at Sam Houston State, and was a doctoral student at Texas A&M University from 2001-02, where he studied American and comparative politics.
