More than 2,000 Blinn students earn academic accolades

College names 844 president’s scholars and 1,221 dean’s scholars

January 8, 2014

More than 2,000 Blinn College students earned academic honors during the Fall 2013 semester, the College announced today.

Blinn named 844 students to its elite president’s scholars list, while 1,221 were named dean’s scholars. To be named a president’s scholar, students must earn a 3.75 grade point average (GPA) while taking at least 12 credit hours and passing all their courses. Students must attain a 3.25 GPA to earn dean’s scholar recognition.

“It’s a privilege for us to recognize these students for their hard work and commitment to their future,” said Dr. Harold Nolte, district president. “The values they have demonstrated this Fall will serve them well as they transfer to elite four-year schools and embark on exciting career opportunities.”

In September, Blinn announced record Fall enrollment of 18,413 students. Enrollment at the College has leapt 31.1 percent since 2006.

Blinn’s academic transfer rate is the highest in the state and 21 percent higher than the state average. The College was also named one of the top community colleges in the state by Schools.com for its positive impact on the Texas economy, and AffordableCollegesOnline.org recently listed Blinn among the most affordable large community colleges in the nation.

Founded in 1883, Blinn’s tuition and fees average about one-third the cost of the same classes at most four-year public universities in the state. In addition to its four campuses in Brenham, Bryan, Schulenburg and Sealy, the College teaches online courses, dual credit for high school and prepares students for quick employment through its workforce education, technical training and vocational education programs.

Registration for Blinn’s Spring semester remains open through Jan. 12. For enrollment information and to learn about financial aid opportunities, visit: www.blinn.edu.
