Lifetime Learning Series brings ‘The Red Handkerchief’ author to Blinn College
Yvonne Ward-Hughes knows all too well the struggles and injustices her mother and aunt encountered during the Nazis’ rise to power in Germany.
Ward-Hughes was at the Blinn College – Brenham campus Friday to tell her family’s story and promoted her new book, “The Red Handkerchief,” which delves into the documented stories of everyday citizens fighting against the Nazi reign.
The event was part of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Learning Luncheon series, hosted monthly at Blinn College.
“Each of us has an obligation to stand up to injustice,” Ward-Hughes said. “The worst form of injustice that was inflicted upon humanity in the last century was the genocide committed by the Nazis against the Jewish population of Europe.”
The Lifetime Learning series brings quality continuing education on topics of particular interest to the Washington County area through lectures, classes and outstanding speakers. The series is sponsored by the Washington County Council and lectures are open to the public.
