*‘Fast Track Calculus’ students take all three calculus courses in single year*

Blinn College – Brenham campus math students can meet the prerequisites for advanced chemistry, engineering and physics classes within a single year thanks to the College’s new “Fast Track Calculus” program.

Offered through the Division of Mathematics & Engineering, the program allows students to take Calculus I (MATH 2413) in the upcoming Summer I semester, Calculus II (MATH 2414) in Fall 2013 and Calculus III (MATH 2415) in Spring 2014. The courses all use the same textbook.

Many four-year colleges and universities request that students take all their calculus courses at one school, because the order in which topics are covered varies from school to school. By taking all three calculus courses, students meet their prerequisites for advanced chemistry, engineering and physics classes. They also increase the chance of being accepted to the four-year institution of their choice.

“Students who complete their calculus courses at Blinn get personal attention from their instructors and study in small classes, usually with fewer than 30 students,” said Randal Hoppens, Blinn’s Brenham campus math & engineering division chair. “By taking all their calculus courses within a year, students can easily form study groups to aid them as they advance through the curriculum.”
