Lehrmann family, friends establish $15,000 endowed scholarship

Scholarship created in memory of former Blinn board member Otto Lehrmann

Otto Lehrmann receives a plaque commemorating his years of service as a member of Blinn College’s Board of Trustees from Joe Al Picone, now the president of the Blinn College Foundation, upon his retirement from the board in 1976. Lehrmann’s family and friends recently established a $15,000 endowed scholarship in his honor.

The Blinn College Foundation recently received a donation from the Lehrmann family and friends to establish a $15,000 endowed scholarship in memory of former Blinn College Board of Trustees member Otto Q. Lehrmann.

The scholarship is open to any full-time Blinn student, without regard to major, taking courses on the Brenham campus. The family said it was making the endowment to recognize Lehrmann’s love for Blinn College.

“This scholarship adds to the legacy of education and public service Mr. Lehrmann established as a member of the Blinn Board of Trustees and as a dedicated civic leader,” said Blinn College President Harold Nolte. “Blinn is honored to award deserving students an annual scholarship in Otto Lehrmann’s name in recognition of his service to Blinn College and his community.”

Lehrmann, who served eight years on Blinn’s board of trustees and four as secretary-treasurer, attended Burton High School before earning his associate’s degree from Blinn College and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University.

Lehrmann was employed by the Herbert C. Schroeder public accounting firm from 1954-67. He was self-employed as an accredited tax advisor from 1967-81, and from 1981-2003, he was employed by Seidel, Schroeder & Company, CPAs.

After marrying Dorothy Louise Zuehlke in 1951, Lehrmann served in the U.S. Army combat engineers from 1951-54 and was a member of American Legion Post #48. He served as president of the Burton Ex-Students Association and was charter president of the Blinn College Ex-Students Association, and served as treasurer of the Washington County Youth Club, vice president of the Brazos Valley Estate Council, director of the National Society of Public Accountants, secretary-treasurer of the Blinn College Board of Trustees and director and vice chairman of the Board of Burton State Bank. Lehrmann received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Blinn Ex-Students Association in October 2010.

Lehrmann was named to the Blinn Ex-Students Association Hall of Honor in 2010.
Established in 2000, the Blinn College Foundation, Inc. is organized for the sole purpose of providing support for programs and activities which enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand the educational opportunities for the entire community. While raising funds is an important function, Blinn College Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the college and to promote excellence in education.
