2011 Blinn Marching Band Festival expects another record turnout

More than 3,500 musicians will fill a day with music at Brenham’s Cub Stadium

Blinn College will host the 37th Annual Buccaneer Marching Band Festival Saturday, Oct. 8, at Brenham’s Cub Stadium. Bands from 36 Texas high schools will preview their University Interscholastic League (UIL) contest shows for a panel of five judges.

The festival, Blinn’s largest to date, allows high school bands to preview their show in advance of UIL trials and receive constructive comments as they prepare for their respective regional event.

Members of the public are invited to attend the free day of music and watch competitive performances by many of the area’s finest marching bands. Concessions will be provided by the Brenham High School Band Parents club.

Sponsored by the Blinn College Music Department and hosted by the Blinn College Band, the event began as a recruitment project by Fine Arts Division Chair Larry Campbell.

"It’s amazing to see this event continue to grow," Campbell said.  "This has been a major event for Blinn College for the past 36 years and draws many prospective students and their families to Brenham."

The bands will compete for first, second and third place in their classification and for awards for drum major, soloist, color guard and drum line. The Blinn Buccaneer Band will perform at 8:15 p.m., followed by a performance by the Blinn Drum Line at 8:30 p.m.

The festival begins at 8:45 a.m.  An updated performance schedule will be available online before the competition at: www.blinn.edu/finearts/marching_festival.html.

The following bands will perform in 15-minute intervals:
Class 1A – Flatonia, Iola, Shiner, Somerville.
