Forty-seven area high school students and 33 current Blinn College students are among the 2011 inductees into the Blinn chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the national mathematics honor society for junior colleges.
The induction ceremony, featuring keynote speaker Dr. Jim Boyd from the College of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, was held April 27 in the Blinn College Student Center on the Brenham campus.
Blinn inductees included: Paul Beisert, Jasmine Dardar, Caleb Darr, Brandii Re’Ann Davis, John Dodd, Sarah Edwards, Joel Farrington, Elkin Galvis Carvajal, Dong Gi Ha, Kevin Hahn, Juliana Hare, Brett Hirsch, Emily Jack, Matthew Johnson, Arica Keilers, Christopher Kline, Terri Kwiatkowski, Steven Locklair, Blaise McKinzie, Jarred Moehlmann, Sarah Money, Sarah Moore, Christopher Muellner, Mandy Muske, Laura Paul, Alexys Price, Blake Rohde, Sara Simmang, Tyler Smith, Chris Smothers, Hector Tovar, Ricardo Trevino and Chandler Wagner.
Juniors and senior students from the following schools were inducted into the chapter: Bellville High School, Brenham Christian Academy, Brenham High School, Burton High School, Caldwell High School, La Grange High School, Round Top-Carmine High School and Schulenburg High School.
Mu Alpha Theta is co-sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America. Each year the Blinn College Mathematics Division recognizes outstanding mathematics students at Blinn and from area high schools. These students are recommended by their teachers to become members of Mu Alpha Theta. The recommendations are based on the students' mathematics grades and overall grade point averages.
