Blinn theater students to “do good” in hosting community college play festival

Blinn College will host the 2010 Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival Feb. 24-27 on the Brenham campus, and the community can get a preview of Blinn’s entry contest during public performances Feb. 18-21.

The students chose a classic work by Bertolt Brecht for the TCCSTA Play Festival. “The Good Woman of Setzuan” is a parable about the difficulties of remaining good during bad social and economic times. The good woman, Shen Te, is generous and well-intentioned, but risks her kindness leading her into a life of poverty and desperation.

The public performances will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18, 19 and 20, and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center Auditorium on the Brenham campus. Tickets are $5 at the Student Center ticket office, (979) 830-4024. Blinn students receive two free tickets.

The TCCSTA Play Festival is open and free to the public and will also feature Weatherford College, Howard College, Houston Community College Southwest, Lone Star College-Tomball and Panola College.
