Music Meet: Solo and Ensemble Competition

This contest is open to junior and senior high school students.  Students prepare solo works or small chamber ensembles and perform for a judge.  The judges are Blinn College faculty and distinguished guest judges.  This is an opportunity for students to receive feedback on their individual performance skills.  Students receive a written critique of their performance.  Selections may be selected from the UIL prescribed music list, but may also be pulled from other solo and ensemble literature.

This annual event will be held February 28, 2014.  If your band students would like to take part in this event, please fill out and return the Music Meet: Solo and Ensemble Contest Entry Form no later than one month prior to the event.

For more information please contact Larry Campbell

Music Meet: Concert Band Contest

This contest allows concert bands the opportunity to perform for a panel of highly esteemed adjudicators.  The contest is held in the O’Donnell Center for Performing Arts on the Brenham campus.  Each band is allowed to both warm-up and perform on stage, allowing bands to simulate a UIL or concert experience and achieve a high quality audio CD of the event.  Participants at this contest receive a CD of judges comments in addition to their performance CD.  Awards are given to the most outstanding band in each class.

This annual event will be held March 26,27 & 28, 2014.  If your band students would like to take part in this event, please fill out and return the Music Meet: Concert Band Contest Entry Form no later than one month prior to the event.

Music Meet: The Blinn College Choral Festival
March 27, 2015

This contest is open to elementary, sixth grade, junior high (7-8 grade) and high school choirs and gives the opportunity to perform for professional choral directors.  Choirs are given a thirty minute window to warm-up and perform in one of two locations: the College’s redesigned Finke Recital Hall, or the acoustically resonant Banquet Room, allowing students the opportunity to experience a contest experience similar to UIL.  Risers and piano are provided.  Unlike the UIL contest, there is no sight reading.  Repertoire may be chosen from any source, and voicing may be altered to best suit the choir’s ability or membership, so long as that alteration is noted in the judges’ scores.

Choirs will receive a plaque for Division I, Division II, or participation, as well as written comments from the judges and a CD recording of the performance.  Awards are given to the outstanding choir in each class at the end of the day.

Registration forms can be found here.  Deadline for registration is one month prior to the event.  For additional information, please contact Dr. Joel Plaag at (979) 830-4239.
