What services does the Counseling office provide?
It provides counseling and education to students and consultation to staff/faculty. The goal is to facilitate growth and change in students’ lives.
How long is each appointment?
Counseling appointments are generally 45 minutes long. The total time period required for an initial intake takes approximately 45-50 minutes. Be sure to arrive to your appointments 15 minutes early.
Is there a charge for counseling?
Currently enrolled students may utilize our services at no cost.
How many counseling sessions can I attend?
Due to an increasing demand in counseling services and our limited staff resources, the number of sessions will be limited.
Are counseling sessions confidential?
All aspects of your participation in counseling are confidential by state law. Counseling Services may share your information if you provide written consent, however, your counselor is required to report information to authorities when:
What if I need to cancel an appointment?
If you are unable to keep an appointment, you must call Counseling Services at least twenty-four hours in advance. If due to a rare emergency or illness, you must contact the department and cancel as far in advance as possible. If you miss an appointment and do not reschedule within one business day, it is assumed that you are not interested in continuing counseling and further appointments with a counselor cannot be guaranteed.
Are there limits to Counseling Services?
When we feel that our services are beyond our scope of practice, we may, after discussing our concerns with you, decide to refer you to a more appropriate agency.
