All Conference - All Stars

Seven members of the 2011-2012 Blinn Baseball team participated in the Texas/New Mexico Junior College All-Star this weekend . The 11th Annual Fuddrucker's All-Star weekend will be Sept. 30 - Oct. 1 at the Baylor Ball Park and Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.

The tournament included four selected teams of All-Stars from the Texas and New Mexico Junior Colleges. This event gives the players an opportunity to showcase their talents for collegiate coaches and professional scouts.

Seven Blinn baseball players to play in Fuddrucker’s All-Star Weekend this month

Seven members of the 2011-2012 Blinn Baseball team have been selected to participate in the Texas/New Mexico Junior College All-Star Weekend later this month. The 11th Annual Fuddrucker's All-Star weekend will be Sept. 30 - Oct. 1 at the Baylor Ball Park and Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.

This tournament includes four selected teams of All-Stars from the Texas and New Mexico Junior Colleges. This event gives the players an opportunity to showcase their talents for collegiate coaches and professional scouts.

The following players will represent Blinn College at the All Star Game:

Buccaneers drafted in 2011 MLB Draft

A pair of former Blinn Buccaneers were drafted in the 2011 MLB, which was held June 6-8 in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Sophomore catcher Nick DeSantiago was selected in the 5th round with the 176th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves. DeSantiago (Buda Hays) hit .313 this season for the Buccaneers with 31 runs scored, 19 RBI’s and three home runs. After high school, DeSantiago was drafted in the 33rd round by the Washington Nationals in 2009, but instead opted to sign with the University of Texas Longhorns before transferring to Blinn in 2010.

Another former Buccaneer, LHP Zach Hardoin, was taken by the Houston Astros with the 1,420 pick in the 47th round of the 2011 MLB draft. Hardoin played at Blinn from 2008-2009 and the University of Missouri from 2010- 2011.

Former Buccaneer infielder Jonathon Ogden has signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers and will be assigned to a team in their Minor League organization. Ogden (Cy-Fair High School) played for the Buccaneers from 2008-2009 and Mississippi State University from 2010-2011.

In other draft news, Eric Wood (3B, RHP) from Pickering High School, Ontario, Canada was drafted in the 37th round with the 1,126 pick by the Oakland Athletics. Wood has signed to play at Blinn and will be an incoming freshman this fall.

Buccaneers sign with D-I schools

Five members of the 2011 Blinn Buccaneer baseball team will have the opportunity to continue their baseball careers next spring at D-I programs.

Sophomore outfielder Brandon Lawrence, who was an All-Conference, All-Region and 3rd Team All-American selection for the Bucs this season, will continue his career next spring at the University of Texas at Arlington.  Lawrence (Buda Hays) led the Bucs with a .387 batting average and 18 doubles.  He also had four home runs, one triple and 29 RBI’s.

Sophomore first baseman Matt Baca (Round Rock Stoney Point) has committed to Northwestern State University (Natchitoches, LA).  Baca played 54 games for the Buccaneers this season and had a .309 batting average with 11 doubles, seven home runs and 39 RBI’s.

Sophomore infielder Josh Foust (The Woodlands) has committed to Houston Baptist University.  Foust played in 55 games for the Bucs and hit .326 with 12 doubles, four triples, five home runs, 39 RBI’s and 10 stolen bases.

Garrett Staudt

Sophomore right handed pitcher Garrett Staudt (Strake Jesuit) will continue his career at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  Staudt recorded 10 saves as the Bucs’ closer the past two seasons.

Sophomore outfielder Lee Neumann, a 2008 Brenham High School graduate, has committed to San Angelo State University. Lee played in 51 games for the Bucs in 2011, batting .337 with 14 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs and 34 RBI’s.

As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, the Buccaneers compete in the Region XIV Athletic Conference and the Southwest Junior College Football Conference. In 1995 and 1996, Blinn College made history by becoming the first college to win back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association football championships with 24 consecutive wins. Blinn added a third national title in 2006 following a perfect 12-0 season. The Buccaneers compete in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. Complementing the athletic teams are the Blinn Cheerleaders, the Buccaneer Treasures Dance Team and the Blinn College Marching Band. All athletic teams are located on the Brenham campus.
