Program Description: The Associate of Applied Science degree in Child Development is designed to provide academic background and practical work experience necessary for the successful care, guidance and education of young children. The goal of this program is to support the preparation of caring, competent early childhood professionals that are ready to enter the field of child development. Students that complete this degree program are qualified to serve in positions such as childcare center teacher/lead teacher for early childhood programs, Head Start teacher, director of a child development facility, group day home or registered home, child life assistant, or paraprofessional in the public schools.

Students have flexibility in the actual scheduling of courses and decisions about number of hours per semester. Not all courses are offered every semester or in all course delivery formats.

The Associates in Applies Sciences degree in Child Development is designed to provide a child development curriculum for students whose interests lie in the area of working with young children. In some cases, the course work is transferable to a 4-year institution that has a complimentary Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS or BAAS) degree program.
